Dressing well for an interview may not always be topmost on our minds, yet its importance is undeniable. It creates a good first impression and does wonders for your self-confidence, which is why Dress for Success® Singapore is a girl’s best friend!
We recently organised a Dress for Success® workshop, interview styling and makeover event on 18 July 2016 for a referral partner. This was followed by a professional resume photo shoot the next day, sponsored by Light Stand of the Adrenalin Group. Judging from the smiles and laughter, the makeovers and photo shoot were clearly the highlight of the event! It was wonderful to see everyone looking so happy, relaxed and confident.
Marilyn Kang, an employment specialist, said, “The transformation in the ladies was phenomenal. We can really see them carry themselves more confidently after donning the new clothes and going through the makeover. They were very happy to receive the free clothes, shoes and accessories. It really made their day!”
For some of the participants, learning how to dress to suit their body type was empowering and left a deep impression. Esther Chong Fong Peng shared this:
“Being just 5 feet tall, I have never felt any wish to dress myself up as people around me would say ‘You should wear high heels; you wouldn’t look good even if you did.’ I felt that wearing heels was tiresome and uncomfortable, and the comfortable ones weren’t high enough. I usually went about my volunteer work here and everyday life in track pants and t-shirts.
However, the clothes from Dress for Success Singapore fitted me so well and the heels were really great! I felt a new sense of confidence in my appearance. At least now people were taking an interest in me just from first impressions. Everyone said I looked great and my father was really encouraging. It was then that I realized physical flaws should not affect me. With a bit of effort, I could look flawless and increase my self-esteem, which is crucial in presenting myself well at an interview. I will follow the tips learnt at the Dress for Success workshop and build up my work wardrobe. Thank you all for your help.”
To all the lovely ladies we met at the workshop — we wish you all the best in your future careers and look forward to supporting you on your journey to economic independence!
